Tour of the Prairie Water Project
Sunday, June 24
1:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Leave from the lobby of the Sheridan Denver Downtown

Tour leaders:  Michael McHugh, City of Aurora, Aurora, CO and Jörg Drewes, Colorado School of Mines, Golden, CO

Board a bus from the hotel and travel to the Aurora Water facilities in the Brighton/Fort Lupton area during which Mike McHugh will give a quick overview of the City of Aurora's raw water system, what it was facing in 2002, and the motivation for developing the Prairie Water Project.   Jörg Drewes will then discuss the challenges of meeting the water quality goals that were set at the beginning of the project and the plan for treating the water through in bank filtration and the Aquifer Recharge and Recovery (ARR) facility.  Upon our arrival at the North Campus, Greg Duey, Source of Supply Manager for Aurora Water, will provide a tour of the well field and ARR facility (about 30-40 minutes).  From there the bus will travel south along the pipeline towards Binney Water Purification Facility (BWPF).  There may be a quick stop at one of the pump stations to explain that part of the system, but we plan to arrive at BWPF no later than 3:30 PM.  Kevin Linder, Manager of the Binney Water Purification Facility, will lead us on a tour of the BWPF and answer questions about the treatment process. The bus will leave to return to the Sheridan at 5:00 PM, getting back by 6:00 PM at the latest.

Ticket price for this event will be $27 per person.

Venue: The shared location for this June 25-29 2012 event will be at the Sheraton Denver Downtown in Denver, Colorado, a vibrant city with abundant opportunities for fine dining, shopping, culture, recreation, and sports (yes, the Colorado Rockies will be in town that week). The Denver International Airport is approximately 23 miles from the hotel.
