How many years have you been in this position or with this employer? One Year

What are your duties now?
50% teaching, 50% research. I teach two courses per semester (Watershed Management, Watershed Management Field Lab, Forest Hydrology, and Forest Soils), and I am currently directing four graduate students working on master's theses in water quality.

What lead you to this position? My love of teaching. While working on my master's degree, I served as a Teaching Assistant for a year and discovered that I loved teaching and working with students.

What do you like best about the position? The interaction with students and my colleagues. Collaborative research. The entrepreneurial nature of running your own research program. No boredom.

What do you find most challenging about the position? The politics of academia.

What advice do you have for students with interests in water resources? At the undergraduate level, take as many water resource related courses as possible and seek out a professor in the field for undergraduate research and/or work-study opportunities. Since most water resource programs are at the graduate level, you should strongly consider attending graduate school.
