this position or with this employer? One Year
What are your duties now? 50% teaching, 50% research. I teach two
courses per semester (Watershed Management, Watershed Management Field
Lab, Forest Hydrology, and Forest Soils), and I am currently directing
four graduate students working on master's theses in water quality.
What lead you to this position?
My love of teaching. While working on my master's degree, I served as
a Teaching Assistant for a year and discovered that I loved teaching and
working with students.
What do you like best about the
position? The interaction with students and my colleagues. Collaborative
research. The entrepreneurial nature of running your own research program.
No boredom.
What do you find most challenging
about the position? The politics of academia.
What advice do you have for students
with interests in water resources? At the undergraduate level,
take as many water resource related courses as possible and seek out a
professor in the field for undergraduate research and/or work-study opportunities.
Since most water resource programs are at the graduate level, you should
strongly consider attending graduate school.
Salary range typical for your position and experience/grade level (optional):
$40,000 to $60,000
