Keeping

February
2008 |
"That was
fun!"
Thanks for all the feedback from my last
newsletter column in which I proposed a month's
worth of films of/about/in water. I learned
a lot from all of you, and I certainly got enough
input to offer up a couple of movie suggestions a
month for the rest of the year. Your
enthusiasm for this non-technical topic is causing
us to think about creating a blog where
non-technical conversations about how water
impacts life can continue unfettered.
While we work those details out, I'd
like to share just a few of your ideas about great
water-themed movies:
CHINATOWN
(1974, Roman Polanski)
Only about a million of you
reminded me of this classic movie about water
disputes in L.A. Good catch, one and
all. I can't believe I left it off my list
-- it's one of my faves.
|
Grapes of
Wrath (1940, John Ford)
Suggested by
Robert Mohler. Not much water in this movie, but
that's the point.
O Brother
Where Art Thou (2000, Joel Coen)
Jack Jordan
recommended this one. He reminded me not only of
baptism scene and the scene with the Sirens, but also of
the dam-burst. Great soundtrack, too, with many
songs about water!
So, keep those movie
suggestions coming. I'm
keeping a list and will share a few them each month --
at least until we've got the WaterDance
blog up and running! And, thanks for taking some
of the dreary out of February for me!
Best,
Terry Meyer

Academic Accreditation
for Geosciences
GSA invites you to participate in a survey
being conducted by a consortium of geoscience
societies.
The purposes of the survey are to determine the level
of interest in establishing some form of academic
accreditation for undergraduate programs in the U.S.,
and determine the characteristics of such a program that
are most desirable.
The survey will be open from 19
February through 17 March 2008. The survey is
quite short, but you will be asked to consider and rate
characteristics of five different models of
accreditation.
Note:
As the survey is being distributed by a number of
societies independently of one another, you may receive
more than one invitation to participate. Please disregard
duplicate requests. Survey at the
link. . |
