Welcome to the continuing conversation of Water Resources! Our
field remains in the fore of public discussion as we struggle with
droughts, floods, and dwindling water supplies. The 2012 conference
addresses a wide range of issues from hydrobiological monitoring
and flood forecasting to pollutant trading and sea level rise. Special
sessions address national topics such as the USGS's National Hydrologic
Modeling and Integrated Water Resource Management and regional topics
such as the Floridian Aquifer under Siege and Florida Springs.
Despite ongoing difficulties in these rough economic waters, this
conference is well attended and full of technical, environmental,
and policy presentations with 60 sessions, over 200 papers, over
45 posters, and 4 panel sessions. These well-organized sessions
allow attendees to focus on their area of interest or broaden their
horizons by attending sessions outside their area of expertise.
In any case, we hope everyone will gain a deeper understanding of
water resources issues and technical abilities of your colleagues.
Special thanks go out to the leaders who picked up the challenge
to pull together special sessions! They not only dreamed up the
topics for these sessions but then invited the leaders in the field
to address the conference. These sessions are a great complement
to an already outstanding field of technical presentations. We are
sure you will enjoy them.
Finally, we want to thank you! Your attendance and contribution
to the national conversation of water resources is what makes AWRA
special. Whether you work in private practice, education, or government,
you need to make your voice heard so the public can understand the
complex world of water resources.
