an Earth Day Survey of the Delaware River and its Tributaries
WE'RE BACK!
The US Environmental Protection Agency, the Delaware River Basin Commission,
and other water monitoring sponsors are inviting you to join us for Water
Snapshot '97: an Earth Day Survey of the Delaware River and its Tributaries.
The event will be similar to Water Snapshot '96 with hopes to expand the
monitoring parameters and to increase the participation.
Dates for the next survey are April 19-27. Hopefully you can plan your
monitoring activities around this time. More than 70 organizations with
more than 300 monitoring sites were part of the last Snapshot.
People monitor the water quality for many reasons. One reason is to show
the commitment we have for clean water in the area. Another is to help
gather data that state and local decision makers may use. The most
important reason is to increase awareness of the water quality in the
Delaware River Basin.
Last survey's sponsors would also like to thank everyone who was involved
with Water Snapshop '96. It was a tremendous success. The final report
should be available soon; you will get a copy!

Last April the sponsors made this appeal: To all citizens, school groups,
government agencies, environmental organizations and others conducting
water quality monitoring in the Delaware River Basin from its New York State
headwaters to the Atlantic Ocean... schedule your monitoring activities for
Earth Day, April 22 and send the data to the Delaware River Basin Commission
for use in the "Delaware River Basin Watershed-Wide Water Quality Snapshot
Report" that illustrates and publicizes the commitments being made to clean
water. We are doing it again, April 19-27.
