DELAWARE RIVER BASIN COMMISSION Stormwater Depending on the percentage of impervious cover, stormwater annual amounts can increase 2-16 times its pre-development rate (Schueler, 1995). Increased stormwater runoff to streams due to urbanization and other factors, increases flood frequency and flow. This is a major factor in loss of stream stability. Commission staff is summarizing the ongoing efforts of many agencies and organizations to better control stormwater runoff. Providing sufficient control of stormwater runoff to protect streams from excessive erosion and scour is extremely challenging. Regional analyses for control of peak stormwater runoff, rather than those for individual sites, appears to be one major potential improvement. |
