The IRICIS Water Resources Applications Module

Authors: C. F. Ropelewski, A. Seth, and M. B. Blumenthal

The primary mission of the International Research Institute for climate prediction (IRI) is to provide climate information to a broad user community. The IRI Climate Information System (IRICIS) is a web-based resource being developed and implemented to service a number of applications. The presentation of climate information and seasonal forecasts in formats useful for water resource management is one of the specific components of the IRICIS. In this paper we outline some of the first steps to develop and implement a water resources applications module which might be of use for water supply and demand management and water allocation including their environmental concerns. The current state of the art in seasonal climate monitoring and prediction and potential applications for water resource management are illustrated with examples for South America and Africa.
