| Seattle, Washington, December 5-9, 1999 |
The
Water on the Web site can be accessed by Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator,
or any other HTML-compliant web browser. A
considerable amount of effort has gone into ensuring that specific applications
(applets) work across Windows, Apple, and Unix/Linux platforms, primarily
through the use of the Java programming language in application development.
In reality, we have found that not all operating systems are equally
compliant with Java specifications, however, resulting in uneven availability
across platforms. We anticipate
that these problems will be resolved as the operating systems and languages
converge on uniform standards. In
addition, some tools, such as our spreadsheet graphing routines, were developed
for Microsoft Excel, and are available only to users having Excel or compatible
spreadsheet software.
