Emerging Contaminants,
generally refer to a large suite of chemicals from pharmaceutical and personal care
products to pesticides and industrial chemicals like flame retardants and plasticizers.
Many of these compounds are suspected endocrine disruptors and have been implicated as
impacting the aquatic life. Human health effects are largely unknown. Ms. Proctor
will discuss the PA DEP's current position regarding emerging contaminants relative to
water quality standards and regulations.
