PWD maintains all public GSI systems and has met their established 5 and 10 year PA DEP / US EPA milestones. Members of PWD’s Public Engagement (PE) Team will escort the group around the city to visit different types of GSI, talk about outreach & engagement for these systems, and be available for general conversation and Q&A throughout. This walking tour includes visits to stormwater management practices (specifically, bioinfiltration basins) that are part of PennDOT and AECOM's reconstruction of I-95 in the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia. Since 2017, these sites have been the focus of monitoring and research studies by teams at Villanova and Temple Universities. Researchers will discuss their ongoing efforts to assess key components and processes in these basins (such as the hydrology, fate and transport, soil media and sediment dynamics, and plant performance), which are intended to inform design and maintenance recommendations of future phases of the highway reconstruction project.
