Call for Abstracts & Student Poster Competition Abstracts

  • CLOSED: Call for Abstracts and Student Poster Abstracts

AWRA will hold its first in-person Annual Water Resources Conference in three years when returns it to the Seattle area. The Planning Committee, led by Co-Chairs Rabia Ahmed of Greene Economics, LLC, and Felix Kristanovich, Windward Environmental, LLC, has arranged an engaging, multidisciplinary agenda of workshops, keynote speakers, technical presentations (both oral and poster), field trips, social events, exhibitors, and special events. Participants can expect iconic Seattle ambiance and hospitality combined with AWRA's commitment to Community, Conversation, and Connection.

For those wishing to submit abstracts for either oral or poster presentations, know that:
  • Sessions are each 90 minutes long, allowing for a minimum of two session slots in the morning and two in the afternoon.
  • Oral sessions accommodate four presentations per session, with speakers allowed 20 minutes for presenting and 10 minutes for questions.
  • Panel sessions focus on a particular topic, with multiple brief (10 minutes) presentations and a moderated discussion by the panel organizer. Panel sessions require just one abstract, submitted by the organizer.
  • Poster sessions allow each presenter the full 90 minutes to discuss their research and for questions.

Types of Presentations

Panel Sessions

If you wish to convene a panel session to promote discussion on a particular issue, the convener should submit one abstract describing the session, its title, the panelists and what they will discuss, and the name, email address, title, and affiliation of each panelist. Panel sessions are 90-minute discussions, and not a collection of individual presentations. Please advise panelists that they must pay the registration fee.

Lightning Talks

Each talk is five minutes, limited to five PowerPoint slides. Separate abstracts are not required for lightning talks because full-length versions of lightning talks will be given in a regular session. About sixteen talks are accommodated in one 90-minute slot. If you wish to organize a Lightning Talk session, let the technical co-chairs know ASAP. Presenters are still required to pay the registration fee.

Other Ideas – Workshops, etc.

If you would like to organize a workshop or field trip, please contact the Technical Program Co-chairs right away. We are looking for creative, original, and compelling ideas.

Abstract Submission Instructions - NEW PROCESS!

Before submitting your abstract, please have all of the following information with you:
  • Name, title, employer, full mailing address, email address, phone number of the main contact, presenter, and co-presenters.
  • Note: Co-author(s) information will not be collected nor included in the conference program/abstract summaries.
  • If you are submitting an abstract for a topical session enter the session code. The topical session organizer will provide this, but the codes are available for you to VIEW ONLINE.
  • Type of presentation: oral, poster, either oral or poster, panel.
  • Abstract title.
  • Abstract (350 words or fewer).
  • Credit card information for payment of non-refundable abstract submittal fee ($25). Payment of the abstract fee must be made before abstract submission. Multiple abstracts can be submitted but can only be made ONE AT A TIME after paying for each abstract separately. Each abstract is a non-refundable $25 fee.

Membership in AWRA is encouraged but is not a requirement for presentation. However, registration and relevant registration fees are required. Oral and poster abstracts are being sought on any topics dealing with, or related to, water. A list of possible topics common to our conferences is provided, including a final section on topics that we view as especially important to Washington and the surrounding region. The list is not comprehensive so feel free to use your imagination; if you need advice please reach out to the Technical Committee co-chairs, Felix Kristanovich or Michael E. Campana.

*New Abstract Submission Process

  1. Abstract submissions are now closed.
  2. Do NOT select more than one abstract submission fee at a time.
  3. After payment is submitted, you will receive a link to the Abstract Submission Form in your confirmation email.
  4. Complete the form and click Submit.
  5. If you would like to submit another abstract, you may click on the link on the Thank You page.
Please note:
  • Purchase only ONE abstract submission fee at a time.
  • You must use the same AWRA account to submit the abstract fee and submit the abstract.

Acceptance Notification

Abstracts will be reviewed by the Program Committee for originality, technical merit, currency, and relevance to the Conference topics. Authors' suggestions for topic and format placement (oral, panel or poster) will be considered but the Committee will make the final decision. The quality of the submitted abstract will be viewed as an indication of the quality of the presentation. Previous performance or failure to give timely notification of cancellation at previous annual and specialty conferences may influence the decision for acceptance. Abstracts received after the deadline may not be considered or accepted. Acceptance notification will be made via email to the presenting author by the end of June 2022. All conference attendees, including presenters, must pay the conference registration fee.

Before submitting an abstract, authors should be confident that they will have funding to pay the registration fee, attend the meeting, and make the presentation. If the presenter finds he/she can't attend, then they should attempt to find another person to make the presentation. If you must cancel your presentation, note that the cancellation date is October 19, 2022. If cancellation is unavoidable the presenter should notify AWRA by October 19, 2022. No refunds will be made after October 19, 2022. You can; however, transfer your registration to another person. Once the technical program is complete, we will be unable to accommodate personal schedules. Please note that the program is arranged by topics, themes, and sessions are placed where they most make sense for the flow of the entire program. Late cancellations and failures to give scheduled presentations are disruptive and leave gaps in the program that are distracting to all attendees.

Speaker Registration Forgiveness Application. AWRA staff and the conference planning committee know that certain presenters may need registration forgiveness to participate in an AWRA event. The 2022 Annual Water Resources Conference Planning Committee has a limited number of registrations they can offer and have the right to accept or deny a forgiveness request. Requests must be submitted by June 20, 2022. Click here for application details.

REGISTRATION NOTE & CANCELATION POLICY

AWRA Code of Conduct

All conference participants (presenters, moderators, panelists, attendees, etc.) must adhere to the AWRA Code of Conduct and must register at the appropriate registration rate. AWRA Gateway members are not eligible for discounted conference rates. The registration fees are the major source of funding for the Conference, and the sharing of registrations is prohibited - every person attending the conference must register. For presenters, if two or more individuals will be presenting, each individual must register for the conference. This includes: all technical session presenters; all panel session presenters; and all poster session presenters.

Cancelations must be made in writing. We can transfer your registration to someone else by October 19, 2022. Those cancelations received by October 19, 2022 will be subject to a processing fee of 25% of total fees. No refunds will be given after October 19, 2022. If you test positive for COVID-19 three days prior to or on the first day of the conference, AWRA will issue a credit* to your account less a 25% processing fee after the conclusion of the conference. *A note from your physician must be provided to AWRA in order to receive the credit. Abstract submission fees are nonrefundable. Refunds will be processed after the conclusion of the conference.
