Praised by attendees year-after-year, AWRA's Annual Conference is an immersive experience, providing attendees with innovative, practical, and applied water resource management solutions, management techniques, and current research. Attendees will hear:

  • lessons learned from the implementation of multidisciplinary projects,
  • best practices discovered in the design and application of water resource management,
  • implications of water policy decisions, and
  • research into current and emerging issues.
Hosted by AWRA's Utah State Section, the conference also promises to provide multiple opportunities to explore and appreciate the unique water resource aspects of this beautiful city and state. A fun way to see the city sights, all registered participants are welcome to join on a beautiful, casual, and early run. This running tour will take in sites around the hotel and through downtown Salt Lake City. Distance will be approximately 5 Km. A donation of $10 or more is asked for this event (and swag will be provided), the proceeds of which will go to the AWRA RAH Student Scholarship Fund.

Conference Workshops

Workshop 1: Using Multiobjective Evolutionary Algorithms to Support Water Resources Planning: Water utilities undertaking long term planning must consider conflicting performance goals, e.g. trying to reliably meet growing demands, maintaining aging infrastructure, while avoiding costly new infrastructure and minimizing harm to the environment. SOLD OUT.

Workshop 2: That's So Water Meta!: All too often, decision-makers are unable to answer fundamental questions about our water systems in a timely way. Even basic questions like: How much water is there? What is its quality? How is it used (i.e., withdrawn, consumed or returned for reuse)? The data needed to answer these questions often exist. However, they are scattered across multiple platforms at different organizations (both government and non-governmental) with different standards, so that it is difficult to reuse beyond the primary purpose for which they were collected. Moreover, it is difficult and time-consuming to transform these data into information that supports decision-making at local or regional scales. To address this challenge, the nation requires a 21st-century water data infrastructure, with new technologies. We will present options for sharing data, and we will practice creating and applying metadata to maximize the potential value of shared data and ensure data are findable, interoperable, and reusable (FAIR). This workshop is free, including AWRA conference attendees and all others.

Field Trips

Space is limited so register early and add these field trips to your conference registration! Attendees can tour the Utah Water Research Laboratory, one of the most well respected facilities of its kind, or visit the Wasatch Drain Tunnel (SOLD OUT) to learn about its water storage and treatment systems for Snowbird Ski Resort and Little Cottonwood Canyon.
