Building Urban Water Resiliency in the Face of Modern Risks

Pat Mulroy began serving as the general manager of the Las Vegas Valley Water District in 1989 and retired February 2014.

She was a principal architect of the Water Authority, which has allowed Southern Nevada to not only weather the stresses of growth, but also one of the worst droughts to befall the Colorado River.

As general manager of one of the country’s most progressive water agencies, Mulroy was exceptionally active in regional and national water issues.

She negotiated numerous agreements with her neighbors on the Colorado River, including international agreements with the country of Mexico. She also serves as treasurer of the Water Research Foundation Board of Trustees, is on the board of the National Water Resources Association and is a member of the American Water Works Association.

Additionally, she was the original chairperson of the Western Urban Water Coalition, is a former president of the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies and has served on the Colorado River Water Users Association’s board of directors.

A resident of Southern Nevada for more than three decades, Mulroy is equally active in the community.

She currently chairs the University of Nevada, Las Vegas College of Sciences Advisory Board, and she has served on the Nevada Public Radio Board of Directors. Mulroy also is actively involved with the Diocese of Las Vegas and has served on the Board of Regents of Bishop Gorman High School.

Her honors include National Jewish Medical and Research Center’s Humanitarian Award, the University and Community College System of Nevada Board of Regents' Distinguished Nevadan Award, and the Education Hero Award from the Public Education Foundation.
